Happy New Year, friends.
This biggest year in Xbox history is on the horizon. Not only are the best games going to show up but the future of Xbox is edging closer in terms of the next-generation console we’ve been talking about for a while. Years in the making, but it comes on the 25th Anniversary of a brand that’s taken a lot of flak for how it’s approached making gamers feeling undervalued with the price increases.
I think this is the year we find the reasons why and everything is going to come full-circle in the best possible way. I haven’t been this excited about the Xbox brand since the Xbox 360. I think it’s that big and I feel this is the last roll of the dice to bring the brand back into focus for gamers who want the combination of console and PC features.
We’re approaching news on Fable which could be absolutely something special. It’s a game that’s been years in the making. If one thing Microsoft has shown, it will support the games and franchises that really have big potential because of the magnificent capabilities of the studios it has at its disposal.
As the biggest gaming publisher. They have shown that the multiple platform approach will continue and it will make bank for Microsoft in the long-term. Of course, exclusive windows will still be maintained but ultimately, we’re going to see every device be an Xbox and competitors will see more of Xbox on their platforms.
It’s going to be about how Xbox can deliver in making it’s platform so much different to the rest and giving players the choice of where they want to play.
I think the next Xbox hardware is going to show us why we should invest in the next big thing from the brand. The interesting thing will be if they can sell the power and the idea to the many fans that have already made their choices. I am excited to see the potential of the platform as it looks to reinvent the platform. From the hardware, to the features, and having full backwards compatibility, to ultimately being the most premium based bit of gaming hardware out there from Xbox.
Of course, it will come at a price, and the likelihood of a delay from 2028 is inevitable now (RAM prices) with the Series consoles getting a massive push with GTA VI seemingly on the horizon. With that being said, there is so much to look forward to as a fan of all platforms. However Xbox goes about reinventing their platform. It will be a generational improvement over the Series consoles, that’s for sure, but it will also very much have to land in a big way with the consumer.
