When we spoke about the power of handhelds just recently. I iterated how much the handheld in that market is something that is powerful there. PlayStation could use their position as the best place to play third-party games. If we look at how Sony has matched the competition before.
They’ve done so through their own technological innovations. But at the same time, they’ve done so through their advantage with working with studios of every geographical location. They’re more keen to take a chance on a title. That’s something that is in the brand of PlayStation’s power, something that overall they have a big say in because of how big PlayStation is worldwide.
My belief is that we continue to see that and we see some games that could make anime fans happy. If Sony wants to claw their way back into the good books of Japanese gamers and go toe to toe with Nintendo they’re already starting to do that. Doing everything in their arsenal to appeal to them is their way of saying ‘we’re serious again’ – we’ve seen them start that already by being more appealing.
I think what they did with dropping the PlayStation pricing just for that region is a sign of things to come. It’s a development that will continue. Sony themselves will look to capitalize in the ways in which keep fans engaged over there. I also think that return could make the western parts of the world really happy as well.
When you have a strong Japanese forward-thinking PlayStation. Then you really start to get content that could make all the difference in terms of the overall competition. I think that fits inline with what Japanese fans want but also what fans worldwide would like to see also.
PlayStation continuing to be diverse in what they deliver with their games. That’s going to be truly paramount to their success.
Nintendo are the gaming giants in Japan right now. But could Sony’s investment in premium products and software based in asia really serve fans a treat to get them back invested? I think so. If you look at what Sony has done with making a sole Japanese console for its fans over there and the best pricing. It really tells you that Sony is serious about being competitive back in the market again – even if things look impossible right now.
