Reflecting on this generation as a whole. It hasn’t been all that bad for Sony. They’re making a lot of money. They’re doing so on the basis of a generation that has had less of the single-player exclusives that everyone loves. If the cost of making these is astronomical. Then what is the price when they fail? Ultimately, Sony needs to be made aware loud and clear of what the PlayStation fans want. That comes with the need of our support.
There is a somewhat of a concern to all this though. If Sony does not produce more or get back to the levels of PS4 output. We all know that games take a long time to make after all. How long is that great impression going to stick around if the right kind of games aren’t being made available at the quantity that the fans expect? I don’t think the novelty will wear off. The PlayStation brand is so powerful for that to ever happen. However, it does raise the importance of upping their game.
I do not think that Sony can standstill. What Microsoft is offering will be intriguing to a lot. That might not translate into sales but nobody can deny their software line-up has been pretty damn good of late. In fact, with the PlayStation Store leading the way with Xbox Studio made game sales. I think the vast majority of the PlayStation audience would agree.
So there is some cause for concern on how Sony can really continue to keep a pace with that level of output. Then there is Nintendo, with the Nintendo Switch 2 it puts them in a very unique situation this generation. One that they’ve not been in for a long time. They can actually compete in the third-party game space. That means that the consumer has more of a choice and brings the necessity for getting them back in that space again. As we discussed before, Sony will go for power and nativity there. While Microsoft, they’re partnering with Asus. Will that actually matter? I do not think so.
What I will say though is that there are a lot of PlayStation fans that are PC players out there. With that in mind, it means they will have a library of games already good to go on the next Xbox consoles as it’s multi-store. When we discussed this last year here.
I knew exactly how this would all play out and Microsoft has played a blinder. Not only are Microsoft playing to their strengths. As are Nintendo, but they’re making Sony aware that next generation our libraries of games across platforms isn’t just about the console anymore.
It’s opened up Pandora’s box. To the extent that actually what we’re going to see is a new generation where the gloves are off and anything can really happen.
