Consoles Going Nowhere

xboxa

Sony just announced with the PS5 that the console has made more profit than any other generation prior. That is insane in itself but just shows how much gaming has grown across the board. We can all now proclaim to play videogames in some way at least. After all, there are one billion of us doing so in a way that we choose to participate.

The recent news that Xbox has announced its next-generation plans as well adds a lot of things to the situation. They’re going nowhere. It’s a statement of intent by Microsoft with their gaming division growing and more people engaging within it more than ever. We told you a while back that Microsoft would likely allow integration with Steam and more third-parties and that’s exactly their ambition. As well as full backwards and forward compatibility using the Windows OS.

Their ambition is to make Windows the epicenter of all your gaming needs and how you choose to play. Offering you both a best in class gaming experience as well as the choice of how you play. While also offering you value as well. With that idea, store implementations and the revenue hit comes last to this ambition.

Sony will be absolutely ecstatic with their recent results. It hasn’t been plain sailing this generation for them. However, the fact that they’re performing well is a great basis for them to improve. It’s a certainty that they will improve as well with the PS6 for things we’ve underlined before.

While an acquisition of the magnitude of WB Games isn’t off the table. The fact is Sony are aiming for deals as they look to increase their worth in all forms of entertainment. Notably anime. Which is something we commented on in the past and told you that would be their focus.

It’s all transpiring. However, it’s not going to stop there. Sony wants to do a lot more and are looking for more opportunities in this space.

I think we can all be sure that Gaming and TV are going to fuse together a lot more in the future. Consequently consoles are going nowhere because they’re now a driving force of how most people go about enjoying their time and great content is as important as ever. Gaming is becoming an important cog in storytelling and the innovation that it’s putting out there.

That’s why when opportunities arise you can bet that if it makes PlayStation better for it. Then they’re going to go all in on that to make sure gaming remains centre stage. Just as Microsoft are going all out to make sure Windows remains the best place to game and they’re doing that in a big way. You could say, it’s being future-proofed.
