It’s no exaggeration when I say Manchester United aren’t the club they used to be. Not only just on the field, but also, everywhere else. The commercial side of the club has destroyed us. It’s no longer a focus on football but a focus on how much we can get from something. This is translating into our transfer window right now or lack-thereof.
When the culture of a club is so ripped apart by an ownership model. It’s not even about hate towards a human being here. It’s just hating the setup and why we’re so incredibly poorly mismanaged. When you set the agenda of winning the league in 2028. You better back your manager. Of course, none of us Manchester United fans actually truly believe that this will be possible based on the reality of what’s unfolding in front of us. In fact, the first five games of the new season are crucial.
If we do not get our targets in. We’re standing still as a football club and verging into a black hole of irrelevance. It doesn’t fill me with much confidence at all what I am seeing from the football side. Especially when this is a transfer window that should be massive for us in trying to get back into Europe.
I look at players that have left us and actually gone out to other teams and done pretty decently as well. I think to myself, is it the player that is the problem or have they just discovered a structure at the football club that they just cannot work under? Is it the instability and lack of ambition? In a sense, this transfer window so far is showing me a lot. Of course, I cannot be pessimistic and absolutely dismiss our chances of getting on the right track. But also, I will not be blinkered either.
We have to set the standards again. Because if we do not get back to a high-level then it’s true you’re only going to find it more difficult to get the right players that fit the culture. If we’re wanting only players that want Manchester United but we’re not putting our name in the hat and going for the best. Then, where you are is what you get. We’re becoming less in tune with footballing matters and more in tune with how much we can save. Does that strike you as a football club that’s going to be successful in 2028 never mind with the league?
We can talk about the United identity and that’s young up and coming players that have come through our academy. However, when you are having to sell on for whatever reason because of fallouts because they do not get that identity. It really is a breaking point for the club. Essentially it shows that we’re unable to actually produce in the way that is our ambition. The fact we’ve soured relationships. Not only with past stars but also future stars. It really emphasizes to me all that’s wrong at Manchester United and just how disillusioned most are when supporting them year in and year out currently.
