Ubisoft will not be having their own event this summer. It’s not because they are unable or do not have anything to share. I think it’s more about them changing tact and learning from some of their previous mistakes. It goes without saying, this is something they just needed to do. Also, having Tencent come in and allow you to be able to do bigger scale games of the genre defining games that you make which are the most profitable. It really is a cultural shift where they’re embracing what they’re best known for.
Of course, I really hope that we don’t just see the usual suspects and that we do get new IP. I look at the past and what they did with The Division and Watchdogs. The latter one specifically in the first game. But when you look at what they’re doing with a new Rayman on the way. The fact that Splinter Cell will be making a return as well and how Assassin’s Creed utilized the whole ‘shadows’ in the latest game. It just makes me feel as though we’re going to see something substantial from those teams when they do eventually get back and present a showcase to us.
I for one, as you all, are going to love to see what comes next from them because on their day and with time they are a really great outfit for game making. Also, with Ancel back in the game somewhat for Rayman that’s really promising for Beyond Good and Evil 2’s future.
