We Finally Mean Business?

j

This week has been promising at Manchester United. I, like most of you, will not get ahead of myself. Bruno Fernandes staying is something I understand because where would we have been without him last year? Of course, I thought it would have benefitted the club if he had been sold on if it meant a rebuild to the extent we needed. I think this is going to be one of those things in 12 months when we see where we are and come back to the conversation.

There is no denying what a talent like Bruno Fernades gives you. For Manchester United to keep him is kind of a statement of intent in itself because our rivals will be wondering just how this is all happening. However, you can only ever backup that intent if you go and get the three or more other major signings in. When Amorim says, ‘the good times are coming’ it really has felt different this week, but ultimately, our fans are only going to respond to that if they do their business on the pitch and to do that we need more.

To get that to happen, you have to continue how you mean to go on. Outgoing movement is going to be very important now in this summer. I think for me personally, that’s more important for the club than who we get in. I know how that sounds by the way. But with just where the club is at the moment. We’re really not going to get more in unless we get more out. So it’s all very significant and on that basis I will only rate this transfer window when it shuts and the dust has settled and we’re heading into another pre-season that Amorim is completely ready for. One that has shown that Amorim has been backed in the right way.

Of course, recently, the club has shaken up the upper footballing management with Jason Wilcox now being ushered in there as director of football. It’s been a great start now, but this could be a defining moment for him in what is the biggest transfer window in the modern era for us. That’s not an exaggeration nor an understatement based on how we performed this last year.

We really need to be clear-eyed about that and get more business done and I am not about to get excited when we’ve only got one signed so far (even if it’s a great signing). There is more to do. So if we’re to be a serious club again, go out and get it done. No excuses.

We have the pull and we’ve seen that a lot this week. However, we need to continue to represent ourselves and show that we’re ruthless too.
