For The Love of Horror

Anybody who truly knows me will know that I am a massive fan of the horror genre. I was watching the likes of Scream, Wishmaster, Halloween and everything relatable at the age of probably eleven years old. So I am an old-school advocate for all things that make the genre so special.

I have fond memories of it all and that’s why the ‘Obsession’ movie really brought some of that magic back. Because it was something that kind of struck the same similar style to those golden days of horror. After watching the movie recently. I wasn’t disappointed, it was great.

Stephen King and Welcome to Derry will be back and it’s going to be a prequel of a prequel. I imagine that it’s going to explore more of the entity and its interaction with the town of Derry. That means a lot of Pennywise lore is inbound with it jumping all the way back to 1935 when it returns for its second season run. So we have that to look forward to.

The Faculty from the 90’s. Does anybody remember that one? It’s getting a modern remake also. Original director Robert Rodriguez is attached to that project. I think ultimately, we’re going to be seeing a rebirth of horror, and that’s reflected not only in the commercial successes. Unlike other genres you can do really good horror on modest budgets.

Obsession turned a tiny $750,000 production budget into the highest-grossing horror movie of this century. That’s an amazing feat in itself and it just tells you how much growth there is in this genre. There’s a renaissance happening in the movie industry as they look to pull in people like me who enjoyed the golden age of horror. If we look at what Blumhouse are doing, they’re very much leading in that aspect right now, but at the same time, I am expecting to see other franchises of old make a resurgence based on how profitable these returns can be in this genre. That means another golden age of horror could be just around the corner as well.
