We have our first State of Play and it’s kicking off a summer of gaming greatness in June. Whatever my thoughts are around the PlayStation situation. I am objective in how I approach criticism. I find that at times, when you lend your voice as a fan of any platform you can maybe influence something good happening along the line. Together as gamers, we are strong no matter our preferred platforms. Most of us have played them all and know when these companies are bringing the best out of themselves. When they’re not doing that, it’s our job to provide the feedback so that they can do better.
Ultimately, this State of Play that’s around the corner has probably been in the pipeline for a while. All platforms are going to have a great summer I believe this year. It tends to get pretty serious when you have a XBOX 25th year anniversary and a Nintendo console that’s just come into its second year and will want to bring some thunder of its own.
What can we anticipate from this State of Play? There were rumours of a GTA reveal this month, that’s now gone completely off the radar. However, I still believe that with Sony having marketing rights, themselves and Rockstar will want to set the internet alight when it’s the right time.
Sometimes a rumour may not be right, but it can be half right in what it entails, and as we all know plans change or they just pivot to a time when it’s one of the biggest months in gaming for new content from across the board. If there was anything that could take some of Xbox’s thunder away. It probably would be the Rockstar marketing partnership with Sony.
This event is promising big news from some major partners. That’s the interesting thing, and it comes two weeks, which is more of a heads up than anybody needs for a State of Play. So this has to be something major, and with it also being shown in select theatres, something that hasn’t been done since 2018. You’d expect Sony could finally be back.
Of course, I will be watching, as I do all the major events over the summer. I am a gaming fan primarily, and I enjoy seeing what each platform has to make everyone’s summer of gaming an event that can be talked about. So yeah, I really do think that something incredibly interesting is going to come out of this.
Especially when most of the previous State of Play’s have been decent but haven’t reached some of the lofty expectations of fans that always want to see their favourite games show up. That’s the thing also, gaming is subjective, we all have different titles we like, we’re very platform specific, and that’s completely okay. I think this summer is going to have great events over the three platforms.
Hopefully, that competition that’s been needed for Sony is finally coming to the table, and PlayStation is there with the answers to all your questions. They need this, but so do the fans.
