One of the best things I saw from that PlayStation State of Play last week was the fact that Konami are making new stuff again. I’ve spoken in the past about how Konami ‘could’ make a comeback. However, it was mostly to do with the Metal Gear Solid franchise. For them to go on and bring out a new IP. That’s a million miles a better outcome than most of us could have anticipated. It was a strong State of Play just based on that, and although it never had the heavy hitters that Sony is known for. It does show potential for where Sony could go even bigger next time with everything left out.
We’ve seen that Capcom are back in force again with two games that we’ve heard a bit about already and they’re looking very good as well.
The fact that Konami is also doing a new Silent Hill with a British vibe was something that has definitely peaked my interest. I think overall it was a show that was one of the better State of Plays that PlayStation has had in recent memory. All based on the fact that eastern devs are really starting to cook.
A John Wick game was also announced. I think if we see the game appeal to how Max Payne 3 was from Rockstar. We could have something really special here as well. I know there are some Max Payne remakes in the works as well which are obviously totally unrelated. It’s just great that we’re seeing games like this return and it brings a lot of hope for many other games that might get another shot on the latest hardware.
All in all a strong State of Play and one I did enjoy for what was there for me. Even though admittedly, I am leaning towards Xbox a lot this year and they’ve become a really big publisher that will be getting a lot of my support mostly because of Playground games. However, what this State of Play does say is that a PlayStation is very much needed in your gaming setup. Especially when some of these are exclusively timed deals. That’s obviously it’s own story right there and an unpopular one at that. However, the fact that eastern gaming is alive and well is looking really rosy for the future of PlayStation. Nobody can deny that.
I am really looking forward to seeing where gaming takes us next for Xbox’s 25 year anniversary and how that will play into how gamers have it across the western continent.
