Watching Alien Resurrection back in the day. It really trashed the franchise. They’ve even decided that this would all be forgotten in terms of Ripley. They rolled over and accepted their mistake. I don’t think there was anything wrong with the idea of ‘sensing’ per se but obviously ‘the control idea’ is executed within the Alien Earth universe in a way that really pushes the story forward.
The premise of ‘growing’ as in using Peter Pan characters for some of the main characters. It was a really strong addition to the Alien franchise and that cliffhanger sets the show up for a second season that is much anticipated by most Alien fans out there.
I also think Alien Romulus really showed a lot of strengths as well and was action packed. There are rumors of a Ripley comeback. It’s been moving for years. It’s actually been held back based on a need for how strong the script needs to be for any return to take place. However at this point, nobody can hear our screams for it from space.
I think Alien has been quite frankly kicking ass these last past additions of the franchise. If we get one last hurrah with old Ripley, then I really think it could actually serve the franchise very well if executed based on how we’re seeing new things that really are showing a level of diversity and depth to this universe. I think Alien Earth has pretty much set a great tone as well as Romulus. Emotional depth and great storytelling mixed with new ideas that are better made use of. Let’s not forget how great the action has been.
Of course, she “may have earned her rest” as Sigourney Weaver said. It might come to a point where ‘Wendy’ becomes a much stronger character in this universe, but ultimately, anyway they do go about it there is no doubt that the Alien franchise has been on a high of late. Season two of Alien Earth has a date set for a 2027 return.
