A Decent Pre-season

Dorgu-Man-Utd

What have we learned from the recent pre-season games of Manchester United? Without question Dorgu is the player who has most improved. We’ve seen how effective Cunha is at carrying us forward. Mbeumo showed a lot of momentum but was caught too deep at times in areas he shouldn’t be and that needs addressing, but I am excited to see more from him. Bruno showed us his best and worst in the game and Ugarte had a game to forget this time where ultimately we really need to find answers for that area.

Overall though, it’s been a decent pre-season. Unbeaten and our energy levels were there to be seen. We still have a few areas that could be invested in but we need outgoings. The true test is going to be against Arsenal. That’s going to be the game that really tests us but it won’t be the game that defines us. It’s going to be over many games to show exactly where we could end up being.

In terms of the system. We saw Amorim happy and at times a little incensed that it wasn’t perfect. That’s a good sign. When a manager isn’t entirely happy. He’s the kind of guy who will send that message above and to the team directly. Making them entirely aware they still have questions that need answering in terms of where they are going into a new season.

I’ve seen a lot of promise this pre-season from the team and it’s been a good preparation. Ultimately though, still a lot of things we cannot overlook where we need to improve.

I will say that even if some players haven’t reached their level yet during pre-season. That’s completely normal. It’s a pre-season. The momentum will run through many games where then they’ll be assessed on their consistency. The Premier League will be where they are really tested as a team. We have to believe we can have a good season. Especially only playing one game a week. Anything else, would be a failure to the fans.
