Xbox Game Pass has been quite the subject of late, with people proclaiming that those on that side of gaming simply ‘do not buy games’. Not only is that nonsensical but it’s been touted many times that there are users out there who are subscribed that also buy games. Nobody can proclaim to know the exact user scenarios for each person. If you’re clouded by brand loyalty you can a lot of the time misrepresent yourself.
The fact is, nobody can predict what each user does as a Game Pass subscriber. No need to hazard a guess that there are many PS Plus subscribers that buy games as well. The fact also of what Xbox is now is what Sony has driven the brand to be. When we get into the logic of that and dive into it a little.
The simple fact is that there is a lot of jealousy around Game Pass day and date releases. Something that Sony refuses to do because it’s simply something they cannot afford to do. If you want to kick a brand while it’s down. The ‘cool’ thing to do from the Sony crowd is to throw narratives around that are unjust and misrepresent the facts within the industry.
Everything is subjective of course, but at the same time, The facts are that Game Pass has been running for seven to eight years now. It remains a massive focus for Microsoft (PC as well) and even if they dropped third-party support sometime in the future or even changed the format. It remains a way for kids and families to take advantage of an eco-system that actually is helping them to continue to enjoy their hobby in the way they choose to support the industry.
So when people come out with their own wild accusations about the misdeeds of corporations and they defend their own. It’s really quite the joke, because ultimately, you’re trying to defend a corporation in some sort of hivemind way with the hordes of others just because one product works for you and you don’t agree with the happiness of others. That doesn’t take away the fact that other products work for others and it shouldn’t be about brand loyalty or poking the bear, but actually, celebrating the actual games and the services that are available to us. In such a way, that they’ve never been available to us before.
Game Pass might not be perfect but what actually is? Is it serving a purpose and are there consumer and developer benefits? Absolutely. You will be hard pressed in any industry not to have any cons on anything across it. That’s why it makes some of the accusations of late absolutely ludicrous. We’re gamers first and foremost, we can have discussions that are fair and practical about the industry in a ‘nice’ way even if you find alarm because it doesn’t feed your sense of moral compass.
We have three platforms in the console industry. It’s incredible, and we are so blessed for having a different way to play. How can anyone be sure what each user purchases and doesn’t? And actually, why do you actually care? To be proven right? Does that sense of esteem get you off? It’s clearly a weird way about going about your life when the reality is each console is just as good as the other. With some being more open and others suiting their way of play.
It really is quite baffling to be honest that we still have people out there. With their pitchfork outs. Newsflash to you, this isn’t the 90’s anymore where console wars are a thing. Simmer down buttercups and appreciate the journey and the actual games which is what we’re all actually here for. And if you don’t understand that. Maybe open a english dictionary and learn some words.
