Switched on This Generation?

What are my thoughts on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2? Well, there is a rumored Nintendo Direct very close to after this thing releases. If we look at the portfolio of games on offer for the console. We have some pretty killer titles in Mario Kart and Donkey Kong. I think longevity of the first title itself a lot of fans will live on through the entire generation.

I think Nintendo themselves need to be really switched on this time. For all the negativity around the console and the game prices. It’s heading to be extremely successful for Nintendo upto a point. The interesting thing for me will be the Nintendo Direct and what they bring to us there.

There are still a lot of games that could be announced for that all important Christmas run-in. They’ll want to go all out to try to maximise the potential of not only the games but the hardware. As we all know, great software will do that.

However, they’re not without competition either. I still think Nintendo exclusives hold a huge weight in why you’d want to invest in the ecosystem. I am not sure Nintendo will care too much either about the stream of negativity about the product. They’re going to go hard for Christmas sales and to keep up the momentum in the product through their games.

So how do they go about doing that? It’s simple really. They need to align themselves with what made the original incredibly successful. Metroid Prime 4 will be on the cards. It’s going to get a release date surely at the event. But also, I foresee us seeing some game series from that previous generation returning. We know Nintendo are working on a new Fire Emblem, but I expect to see Astral Chain make a comeback at some point as well. It sold too well to not even be in their consideration.

I think the expectations from Nintendo fans this generation will be. More of the same as last generation please. Sure, you’ve set the wrong precedent in raising your game prices but now you need to show why these games are going to be worth it and how the hardware matches the ambitions of Nintendo fans.

Taking all that into consideration, Mario Kart World was originally a Switch game. It was being made for that console. I think going forward Nintendo is really going to have to showcase everything they can get out of the hardware. Although, I say that, and I think actually 99% of casual Nintendo fans are just wanting more of the same with more performance, which this thing sells you on. It’s going to be an interesting generation and more so as we get to the backend of this year to see just where we are with the Nintendo Switch 2 and if expectations are being met across the board.

If anything, the great previews for these games are showing why everyone will be on Nintendo Switch 2 by the years end. No matter expectations, if the fun is there, that’s what Nintendo is about and that’s why no matter the negative vibes. I think with most, nostalgia will rule the day. That’s what Nintendo is counting on.
